RAmen

Upon more thoroughly reading the anti-creationism resolution and report to be voted on next week by the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (mentioned in the previous post), specific attention should be called to something which appears on page eleven.

Creationists Freak Out!

It seems that Ken Ham and Paul Taylor (of Answers in Genesis, which readers will remember from the Kris Helphinstine debacle) are having shit fits over a vote to be taken next week by the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly which would formally recognize the dangers posed by creationism (also known as “intelligent design” and “sudden emergence”) masking itself as science. Since neither Ham nor Taylor bothers to let you examine the resolution and report for yourselves, here it is (also available as a PDF). One might suppose that they themselves don’t link to it because you’re not meant to be looking for answers anywhere except for in Genesis.

Kreationism Kids!

If only this had existed back when Kris Helphinstine was proselytizing Creationism to Oregon public school students. He would not have had to hunt around the Answers in Genesis website for material, and instead could have just used their Kids Answers resources instead.

Awesome

“For one to claim there is no God means that one can see everywhere in the entire universe at the same time, as well as be transcendent, to verify that God really doesn’t exist,” write Dr. Georgia Purdom and Bodie Hodge on the website of Answers in Genesis. “Such attributes are that of God. So, when one claims to be an atheist, they are really claiming to be God, thereby undermining their own position.”

Answers In Vancouver

This is sad. Remember the organization Answers in Genesis, from which the infamous Kris Helphinstine took information in order to teach his Oregon biology class about creationism? One of their lecturers will be on hand this November for the Answers in Genesis Conference across the Columbia in the Vancouver of Washington. Unfortunately, I will be in Los Angeles at Serenity LA that weekend. Not “unfortunately” in the sense that I wouldn’t rather be in LA, but in the sense that I’d have loved to be able to go bear witness to this thing.

Unintelligent Design

“While no stone should be left unturned in seeking to discover the nature of man’s origins, we can say with conviction that we know with certainty at least part of the outcome,” opines GOPresidential candidate Sam Brownback. “Man was not an accident and reflects an image and likeness unique in the created order. Those aspects of evolutionary theory compatible with this truth are a welcome addition to human knowledge. Aspects of these theories that undermine this truth, however, should be firmly rejected as an atheistic theology posing as science.” Emphasis added in case anyone missed Brownback’s bizarre, ignorant, and completely stupid “argument” that only faith equals knowledge, and only religion can be considered science.

Wingnut Update

“I have an awesome praise report! Remember Kris Helphinstine? He was the biology teacher from Sisters, Oregon that was fired for teaching creation last month?” posts LambofGod57. “Well my son had a substitute teacher in his spanish class on Wednesday and HE was the teacher!! Praise God!!”

That’s Some Tech Support Call

“Praise God that your website is fully working again,” Ken Ham reports one supporter as saying. “Our familiy has been praying for [Answers in Genesis] and the technical problems. Satan will not get the victory, God will.”

EMALman Update

Several days ago I responded to one EMALman regarding the Helphinstine debacle. They have a response of their own back to me. In addition, they’ve been involved in a long thread over at Deep Thoughts.

Feeling Free To Comment

EMALman asks several questions of me regarding the Helphinstine case, the first of which is why I posted this over here rather than as a comment to their blog. My answer to that you can find over there. So let’s get right to the rest of their questions. I should warn you at the start that this is going to take some time.
