Where’s My Fucking Bourbon?

All the way across the country for the second time in two months, this time for this Sunday’s memorial party for my Dad, only to walk into the kitchen of his old apartment tonight to discover that someone appears to have run off with the Bulleit I bought when I was here last month.

VOTE OR DIE! (May 2008 Edition)

No one needs my reminder to vote, but nonetheless I invariably feel remiss if a VOTE OR DIE! post fails to show up here. A random sampling of names with filled-in ovals beside them on my ballot: Barack Obama, Steve Novick, Vicki Walker, James Jahar Perez (my write-in for District Attorney for as long as Schrunk runs unopposed), Jacoby Ellsbury (my write-in for Mayor this year), Amanda Fritz, and Nick Fish.

Clinton Targets Young Voters

“Bill Clinton … made a special appeal to young people, who have been a bulwark of Obama’s support,” reports The Oregonian. “He said many of them could expect a long life span, and that Hillary Clinton would increase funding for research into health issues affecting the elderly.”

Because if there’s one thing that brings the kids to a candidate in droves, it’s promising them something that won’t benefit them for another sixty years.

Obama’s ‘Low Key’ Campaign Stops

This evening, the top story on CNN Politics is about Hillary telling voters to “think about this as a hiring decision”. Not only do they not appear to have a story about Obama speaking to a crowd of 75,000 people in Portland, but in that story about Hillary they simply report this: “Obama made low-key campaign stops this weekend, hitting a street festival in Keizer and stopping for ice cream in Eugene.”

“Portland Fire and Rescue,” reports the AP and KGW, “estimated that 60,000 people were gathered inside the bowl at Waterfront Park and another 15,000 were outside.”

Addendum: Here’s a good look at what that many people crowded into that part of the park looks like.

Addendum: I know we’re supposed to be gearing up to be all unified and shit, but do you think Hillary even in her wildest and wettest dreams could draw a crowd like this?

Nobama For Me

Judging by the sheer size of the line snaking through downtown Portland seemingly all the way to Tualatin, and the size of the crowd already present in The Bowl south of the Hawthorne Bridge in Waterfront Park, I’d be surprised if everyone waiting to get in actually gets to do so. At this point I fully expect the reports later to claim this is the largest crowd Obama has ever managed to assemble in one place. But me, I’ll be watching the speech online.
