While The World Is In Ruins, We Are Immune

Hit And Run Stupidity

If one were to go by the way the barista at Floyd’s Coffee Shop had it, the true crime of this incident wasn’t that someone she knew was the driver in a hit and run. Instead, the crime was that the television news was making him out to be some sort of terrible person.

“It could happen to anyone driving home from the bar!” she complained to the customer at the drive-thru to whom she’d been telling the story.

Seriously?

Engaging in a hit and run while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, striking a pedestrian and then driving away like a shit-head and a coward? That’s something that could happen to anyone?

If by “anyone” this barista meant “anyone stupid and/or drunk”, perhaps she’d be correct.

Although it would appear, according to reports, that the 28-year-old Philip Freimann was charged with felony hit and run and reckless driving, and not any crime related to intoxication. So I guess that leaves us with “stupid”. Which leaves us with “stupid, cowardly shit-head” as the operative description.

For the barista in question, knowing a stupid, cowardly shit-head responsible for a hit and run is something to laugh about, and media coverage of it motivation to feel righteous indignation on the perpetrator’s behalf.

Somehow, I doubt that the 62-year-old victim, who “suffered severe head and back injuries” in the incident, would view it the same way.
