Those are, it seems, what OPB thinks of the blogosphere, despite the statement being akin to dismissing “television” as a medium based upon only the behavior of FOX News. It’s also an all too familiar case of glass houses and the throwing of stones.
“OPB spoke at length with Ira,” says Becky Chinn (OPB’s membership director), “and jointly made the decision to seek a new venue so as to end the distraction from the purpose of his visit.”
Funny, though, that this isn’t quite the story that the Mercury got directly from Glass’ agent, who bluntly said of the venue: “It’s not a place Ira wants to be associated with.”
In other words, OPB via Becky Chinn would be the party in all of this which actually is trafficking in misinformation. This wasn’t about getting past a “distraction”. It was about Glass not wanting to speak in a righteous wing house of bigotry which didn’t reflect his own values.
The reality here is that OPB fucked up, they got caught fucking up, the local blogosphere drummed up the pressure, and OPB had to scramble to fix it. The reality here is that OPB got beat, fair and square.
And their only reaction was to whinge about it, stereotype an entire form of communication, and then lie to its listeners, viewers, readers, and members about what happened.
