Something Smells

“Paris Hilton ordered back to court Fri.,” the KGW website reports as breaking news, “may be returned to prison.” And then it suggests you go here for the details.

Can You Be At KATU Tomorrow At 8:00 AM?

“We are in desperate need of some Browncoats to show up at a live broadcast of AM Northwest on KATU tomorrow, Friday 8 June,” posts Galumbits on the PDX Browncoats boards. “This is part of a big publicity push we’re doing for the screening and we need 10-15 volunteers to show up and be part of their audience. We will get free advertising if we do this! If you have the morning free (between 8 & 10AM) and have been looking for an easy way to lend a hand, this would be a great way to do it. If you are able to participate, please post here. We need a head count by 2PM today (June 7) at the very latest.” Join the boards and chime in, or let me know and I will pass information along.

June 10 Shindig: A Day In Hollywood

Join PDX Browncoats this coming Sunday, 10 June, for A Day In Hollywood, beginning with bowling from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (with the chance for shindig newbies to win one of this year’s screening t-shirts), and then a late lunch/early dinner at Moon & Sixpence beginning at 3:00 PM. In between — or, really, at any time at all — stop by the historic Hollywood Theatre to purchase your screening tickets.

Help Promote Our Charity ‘Serenity’ Screenings

Time to market our charity Serenity screenings if you have a blog, a space, or a journal. Three specifics that we need you to let people know about, all wrapped, of course, in the fact that all relevant information can be found on our event website.

Buffy Musical To Donate $1 Per Ticket To ‘Serenity’ Fundraiser

As some of you already know, the Buffy Musical is in town the same weekend as our Can’t Stop The Serenity charity screenings. Those behind the Musical have just announced that they will be donating $1 per ticket to Equality Now via our fundraiser. Should the Musical sell out, that means approximately $1,000 will be added to our fundraising total this year. That event is scheduled for midnight on 22 June and 23 June, therefore giving everyone plenty of time to go to our charity screenings and the Buffy event, and be contributing to Equality Now all around. Also all the more reason to make sure you buy your screening tickets early and in advance — that way, you’ve got that squared away and can also afford to hit Buffy that weekend.

Major Tom Screws The Homeless

Not, you know, literally. But when you combine Randy Leonard’s letter with the response, of sorts, from Mayoral flunky Kyle Chisek, it leaves me wondering why, if he ran against Jim Francesconi and all the monied interests funding his campaign, Major Tom seems congenitally incapable of looking those same monied interests in the eye and saying, “You don’t get what you want until and unless we get what we need“. Instead, he just conveniently defers to the committee and the process, rather than having the balls to step up and say that the committee and the process apparently has failed. It’s almost as if we somehow managed to elect a Mayor Francesconi after all.

Fair And Balanced

Earlier today, the journalistic stalwarts of FOX News reported that all black congressmen look alike.

Take The Browncoats Bowling

Haven’t yet bought your tickets? Want an opportunity to do so, and perhaps for your first time meet the members of PDX Browncoats? In fact, if you’ve never been to one of our monthly shindigs before, this is the one you should attend, because shindig newbies — and only shindig newbies — will have the chance to win one of this year’s t-shirts. So here’s the deal: This coming Sunday, 10 June, is our annual Take the Browncoats Bowling (Take Them Bowling) shindig, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hollywood Bowl. It’s “Family Day” over there, so bowling is just $1.50 per game, plus shoe rental. Following bowling, we’ll be having a more typical restaurant style gathering at a location to be announced in a couple of days. And all of this, of course, will be in the historic Hollywood District, so there will be ample opportunity for you to hop over to the Hollywood Theatre and purchase your screening tickets.

Scott Allie To Guest At Charity ‘Serenity’ Screening

I’m pleased to announce that Scott Allie — Joss Whedon’s editor at Dark Horse Comics — will be our guest for the Friday night screening. Doors open for pre-screening activities at 7:00 PM and programming begins at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $13 in advance and $18 at the door on the day of show, and are available online or at the Hollywood Theatre box office. Among other things, Allie’s credits include Serenity: Those Left Behind and the forthcoming Serenity: Better Days, and he edits the current Buffy: Season 8 series. Our thanks to Allie for wanting to help make this year’s events in the Portland of Oregon, birthplace of the charity screenings movement, even better than last year.
