While it’s apparently true that the president of the eponymous Robert King’s House of Wingnuttery and I are on the same side when it comes to the Charter reform issue, it doesn’t mean he isn’t still a wingnut on police-related issues.
Over at Breaking News Updates, The Oregonian reports on “[a] bill that would require the state to record grand jury testimony in cases involving deaths that occur at the hands of police”. They of course speak to Robert King.
Robert King, president of the Portland Police Association, said the grand jury process provides much-needed “predictability” and “reliability” for officers. He said he believes the motive behind the bill’s grand jury recordings is not to increase “transparency,” but to attack officers, get them fired or indicted.
“The risk for us is not only in the armed encounter,” King said, “but also is in the review of our actions.”
It’s actually a pretty accurate statement. King “relies” upon the “predictable” result of District Attorney Schrunk doing all he can to ensure that grand juries will not return indictments against police officers, and he understands that any true “review of our actions” would be a “risk” for them because their actions all too often are problematic at best, and criminal at worst.
