Argh

So I was all set to start checking out Blurb only to discover that is requires Mac OS X 10.4.5, and I am still back on 10.3.9.

Red Sox National Holiday

The long dark off-season at last comes to a close as pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida.

The GOP Is A Cancer: Religious Ignorance Edition

I would respectfully suggest, if Republicans want to make wingnut remarks on the floor of the House, that they at least understand that the god of Islam isn’t Muhammad, it’s Allah.

Charter Reform, Monday on KPOJ

The notice I posted to Portland’s Future Charter earlier now is wrong. I will not be appearing on Thom Hartmann’s show to discuss Charter reform tomorrow morning. I’ve been moved to Monday morning.

Strong Mayor Flashback

At the tail end of today’s City Hall Notebook, there’s a jab at Mayor Potter for hiring a new bureau director without involving either the public or commissioners, despite arguing awhile back for such a process. For what it’s worth, here is another such “strong mayor” (or is it really just “petulant mayor”?) moment, where Potter actually violated the City Charter by refusing to let someone pull items of the Council’s consent agenda.

Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote?

Anyone happen to know where in town I can go pick up a Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote for my D50?

Give Me A Reason

Give me a reason, other than fear of no income, why I should not walk out the door once I get today’s mail done. See, the cramped and twisted knot in my stomach is asking me what sounds like a very reasonable question. Why, the knot would like to know, am I sitting here working my increasingly-underpaying job, once more (the knot is astonished that this isn’t even the first time) being asked and expected to do so in an environment that is needlessly and inappropriately unhealthy because the heat is broken again? Not to mention the news that the only reason we weren’t suffering carbon monoxide (or is that dioxide?) poisoning to begin with was sheer luck that the particular vent with the problem is deep in the basement. At what point, the knot asks me, is it entirely reasonable to refuse to be subjected to the continuing bullshit, and stop making the decision based on fear?

This Is Gorram Bizarre

Apparently entirely unbeknownst to us local Portland-area Browncoats until, well, pretty much a couple of hours ago, it seems that Serenity is returning for one week to the Laurelhurst Theater beginning this Friday, February 16. I’m not sure how none of us heard this was coming, but maybe the theater remembers how often we were there once upon a time. Laurelhurst was one of the theaters here in town which played Serenity for a fair length of time in second-run, helping to make Portland one of only two cities in the country to hold the movie for five months.

Congressional Republicans On Iraq: ‘We Lose’

It says so right there in a letter from two Republican members to their colleagues about how to avoid having to debate their war.
