Don't Want To Be Your Monkeywrench

Told You So

So now comes word that the president of the eponymous Robert King’s House of Wingnuttery has sent a letter (pdf) to Mayor Potter, in which King states that he will be coming to the table not to “evaluate racial profiling issues in this community and help to identify ways to eliminate it as soon as possible” (in Potter’s words), but instead simply “to explain that we do not engage in racial profiling”.

Earlier this month, I took the time to explain the real reasons King had suddenly decided to “come to the table” on racial profiling. In the words of King water carrier and editor of the union’s newsletter, Detective Peter Simpson: “[B]ecause in the world that we live in, if we aren’t at least within earshot, we could find that policies or procedures are put into place that aren’t supported by our members.”

At more or less the same time, Blogtown argued King should get “a little credit” — a proposition which I disputed based upon the track record, up to and including Simpson’s above comment.

Not, you know, to get all smug and self-righteous here or anything, but I really did tell you so.
