Divided Attention

Intermittency here caused by me getting my wonk on elsewhere, now that referenced site is up and running. Also, this is out, and it’s awesome.

Digg This

Go forth, my minions, and digg this. If you couldn’t care less, now is the time for quiet.

Racial Epithets Are Not Merely ‘Labels’

Judging by their post title, Brain Brain What Is Brain? considers calling someone a “Christian” to be on par, in terms of level of intended insult, with calling someone a “nigger”.

Here We Go Again

Yet another major delay in the alleged “day after air” schedule for TV shows on iTunes, leaving me still in the dark as to the latest episode of Battlestar Galactica.

Twenty-Eight Years Later

Over at Talking Points Memo, a reader points out the distressing possibility. In the event of a (Saints preserve us) Hillary victory in 2008, the stage is set for the United States having been ruled by either a Bush or a Clinton for twenty-eight years. Twenty-eight years! Truthfully, we have no more need for dynasties than we do for monarchs. Wake me when the Edwards/Obama ticket is ready.

Portland’s Future Charter

It’s not completely unwarranted to view the potential revision of the City Charter to replace its current commission government with a strong mayor form as a kind of re-founding of the City of Portland. That makes Charter review one of the single most important decisions the City’s residents can face. With the work of the Charter Review Commission complete, this is the real deal. Whatever your views, the time to speak up is now. In other words: Portland’s Future Charter is now live.

Get Off The Fast Track

Over at Blogtown, Scott Moore shows that he and I happen to agree that the Potter/Saltzman push to fast-track Charter reform onto the May ballot is either “naivety on the part of the mayor and his supporters” or “a cynical political attempt to push the changes through when very few Portlanders will be inclined to vote”.

Imminent Wonk Alert!

In all likelihood, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, tomorrow is the target date for launching my new gangblog on Charter reform. At launch, it will not yet have the content of my previous gangblog on the same topic imported into it, since I’m still working out some issues there. And when it goes live, there won’t be much there beyond my introductory post. But for those interested in Charter matters, keep an eye out on Sunday.

Creaming For Moyer

Today I invite you to regale your senses with the sight of both Theo and the SkyscraperPage folk spasming orgasmically over Tom Moyer’s new proposed downtown tower. The former, in its throes of ecstacy, only glancingly mentions any criticism or critique at all. And the latter is like watching people determine who can stroke the mid-life crisis sports car harder than everyone else.
