Clever, Classless, And Free

Dinesh D’Souza Thinks Things Through?

Apparently, according to Newsweek, the new Dinesh D’Souza book blames liberals for being a “domestic insurgency” aiding and abetting terrorists and are “at least as dangerous as any of bin Laden’s American sleeper cells.” It’s too bad it’s his own positions which most closely relate to those of the terrorists.

Curiously, in addition to tha charge, D’Souza also says it is the very liberals assisting bin Laden and other terrorists who are responsible for those terrorists hating us in the first place. I guess the argument would be that liberals are dangerous for pissing off terorrists and then also stupid for helping them out?

More curiously, the litany of liberal things which D’Souza says the terrorists hate happen to be the same things that D’Souza and other right-wingers hate, which might lead a thinking person — in other words, not D’Souza — to draw the more actual comparison between domestic right-wingers and D’Souza’s terrorists, rather than between the latter and America’s liberals.

Still more curiously, I had thought that in the wake of 9/11, at least according to the right wing, we weren’t supposed to be making excuses for the terrorists or assigning to them some sort of comprehensible motive.

Now, according to D’Souza, they do have a comprehensible motive: It’s not so much that they hate us for our freedom (which was the first draft of the comprehensible motive), but that we Americans actually make use of it so damned much.

Funny, but that’s the same grievance we hear all the time from our own right-wingers, like Dinesh D’Souza. So I wonder whose positions actually aid and abet the terrorist cause?
