Every City Council Needs Someone Who Can Read

When this exchange between the makers of an operating system and the City Manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma, was posted online, it was headed by the line, “Why every city council needs at least one geek.”

In reality, that isn’t the issue. The real issue, clearly, is that the City manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma, is something of an idiot who either does not or cannot avail himself of the skill of simple reading comprehension.

Understanding computers isn’t at issue. At issue is being able to pay attention to what someone is telling you.

When your City Manager seemingly is incapable of grasping that the people with whom he is corresponding, despite repeated threats to improperly notify the FBI, are both describing the likely situation and politely offering the proper avenue for solving the problem, it’s not that you need a geek on your City Council.

It’s that you might want to hire a City Manager with the ability to read.
