Learning To Be Conservative (Class 103)

This is the next to last lesson on how to be a better conservative. he final lessons tomorrow does not mean there isn’t more to being a conservative, there is just so much more but time and space can only allow for the more popular concepts. So on with our third in a series of four lessons!

Hypnosis

Conservatives can effect change and attitudes by repeating key phrases over and over and over and over. It doesn’t matter what phrase you pick, just make sure it slams liberals then pass it on to other conservatives. Before you know it people will believe it. Won’t matter of it’s true or not because people will hear it so much that they will assume it is true without questioning it. Some favorites that have worked are “If you’re not with us, you’re against us” and “Democrats give aid and comfort to the enemy”. Remember, repeat, repeat, repeat. The more repetition, the more effective it will be.

Justice System

Whenever possible vote for conservative judges. Conservatives need more judges that will go beyond the practice of judging basic truth, but will impose the conservative mindset upon society. The justice system has gone a long way to alter the USA. Take for example when a state holds an election and the majority votes in favor of physician-assisted suicide. All it would take is one conservative judge to totally wipe out the majority vote (so much for We The People) and apply conservative principles. Never vote for a judge that is anti-death penalty and never vote for a judge that believes in anything other than excessive punishment with no judicial discretion. Victims should have more rights than criminals, even though the Constitution speaks of the rights of the accused, not the rights of the harmed. Most importantly of all, refer to all court decisions supported by liberals as “judicial activism” and all decisions you support as “judicial restraint” regardless of the truth.

Iraq

Perhaps the biggest opportunity to attack those liberals who want to give aid and comfort to the terrorists is Iraq. Although it might seem complex the conservative mindset is really simple. One one side of your mouth say you support the troops (to appear patriotic) then on the other side send them to war without adequate supplies, such as body armor, and refuse to fund any of the services they will need upon returning home. Demonize liberals and make them look like everything they say is the equivalent of working for the terrorists. Never ever mention any bad that is taking place in Iraq. This is a conservative no-no. For example the recently-reaffirmed news that Iraq has plunged itself into civil war should not be mentioned. Hide it. When you hear your president pass the buck for the debacle to his eventual successors, hide it! Pretend it never happened. Hide the truth! Hide it all! The conservative cause will be hurt by this bad news stuff.

Protest

Protests are anti-American unless engaged in by conservatives. Protest anything that looks like it might be about the rights of people you hate, or that might undermine your power. For example, if women are exercising their right to choose, block access to the abortion clinic or create a poster urging conservatives to kill abortion doctors. Or, if fully counting votes might mean your side loses an election, send operatives to riot and rush the doors of the room where the votes are being counted. But when liberals protest the erosion of civil liberties, be sure to tell everyone that liberals and terrorists are friends. Always question the patriotism of liberals who protest, and always tout the patriotism of conservatives who riot, threaten violence, or otherwise break or ignore the law.

The Poor

For decades conservatives have tried to convince the poor that conservatives are on their side, and you must continue this attempt, even though it is not true. If a poor person somehow gets a good education and escapes their poor situation they will be enlightened to the truth that conservatives have been slashing funding to that very education, as well as to all of the social services society has a responsibility to provide to the poor. It is the duty of conservatives to make sure the poor are oppressed and that their children only attend either public schools whose funding has been gutted by conservatives, or private or charter schools which teach conservative values. Promote any scheme which will produce future dullards who will rely on conservatives to think for them, rather than thinking for themselves. If they suddenly find out that they can think for themselves and not be exploited by us then conservatives are screwed! Enlist the new crop of idiots and bigots into the conservative movement ASAP!

Supported Campaign Finance Repeal? You’ll Be Hearing From OHSU

A nice little item under “Political Chatter” in today’s Willamette Week says that the Portland Business Alliance sold the list of email addresses it accumulated trying to get rid of publicly-financed campaigns to OHSU so the latter can “mail out some spin about the ailing aerial-tram project.”

So I hope all of you who signed onto the PBA’s portion of the bid by the City’s power-brokers to keep local politics awash in their own money enjoy the missives you’ll be receiving from Pill Hill.

You’re Profane, I Bet You Think This Post Is About You

Polls are really fucking odd.

According to a new AP/Ipsos poll on profanity, 78% of respondents say they swear to one degree or another. Yet 67% of respondents say it bothers them when people swear.

What kind of bullshit is that?

Then there’s the woman who says she tells swearing high schoolers that she has “a dictionary and a Roget’s Thesaurus” and doesn’t “see any of those words in there” — as if those two books are the only arbiters of language.

Oh, and the man who bitches about having to hear people swear on the cable television for which he pays more than fifty dollars a month. How about changing the God damned channel?

But then there’s this: “For those who might find the results depressing, there’s possibly a silver lining: Many of those who swear think it’s wrong nonetheless.”

It takes a real bastard to come up with a pain in the ass cop-out like that. Jesus Christ.

Cocksuckers.

Learning To Be Conservative (Class 102)

We continue to find real life advice on being a conservative. Many conservatives past and present have made great advances for the cause of the conservative ideology. As you become more committed to the conservative way it is important that it replace any previous ideas of good and bad you might have once known.

Immigration

Conservatives love the issue of illegal immigration. As a good conservative you will welcome anyone who wants to take the law into their own hands to stop people from coming to this country illegally, especially Mexicans. Mexicans feel this is really their country and they intend to take it back, so why not shoot them? Make sure they don’t feel oppressed by your hatred of them even while they are cleaning your homes and picking the crops which become the food on your table. If anyone takes a stand for compassion and rationality, just call them wetback-lovers, and then they will most likely feel guilty. Remember, use the “fear of brown people” card as often as possible. Never mention the reliance of the nation’s economy upon immigrants. Make it appear as if liberals are in favor of Mexicans taking jobs away from white men, sleeping with white women, and dealing drugs to your kids.

Religion

It’s only okay to say you are associated with certain religions or philosophies. If you must make mention of any religion other than Christianity, or any philosophy other than free market absolutism, be sure to mask your hatred with an air of simple condescension. It would be good to pick some verse in the Bible to try and sound like you know what you’re talking about, even though you really don’t. Always try and make non-Christians feel guilty, unwanted, or not properly American. Sometimes it works, especially in combination with that old bigotry card. Appearances go a long way.

Spin It

Learn to spin all bad news from liberals into the positive. For example, if an improperly-invaded country has dissolved into civil war after three years of occupation, despite the Secretary of Defense saying the conflict would not last longer than five months, declare that the mission has been accomplished and also that you are implementing a strategy that will lead to victory. If the bad news from liberals is that your president is conducting illegal surveillance on American citizens, your spin will be that the law he is breaking is unconstitutional. Spin it. If there is a job change in a liberal administration, call it a shake-up. Spin it, baby, spin it!

Morality

If you went to church when you were young remember only those parts of what you were taught which help you oppress or hate other people. Humanity has no place in conservatism. Being conservative means we endorse only people like ourselves. Heck, if homosexuals want to appear just like normal people, then they should stop choosing to be homosexuals. Be in favor of confusing religious marriage with civil marriage, reducing it to just a weapon with which to bludgeon people you hate. Be in favor of all attempts in the public schools to teach abstinence-only sex education despite the fact that it will lead to more unprotected sex and then to more unwanted pregnancies which you will, in a properly anti-choice way, force to be carried to term even though you will then refuse to adopt the child or allow the mother to receive government assistance for food and shelter in order to keep that child healthy and alive.

This Is What Scientologists Actually Believe?

Utterly Boring points out an article that shows how Scientology apparently does to its pregnant women the same thing it does to its critics, minus the lawsuits.

En Gard!

It seems that Brian Gard is getting a little cheesed at the fact that his confidence man tactics, and those of his firm, are becoming issues in the City Council campaigns.

According to today’s Trib, Gard was in a certain state of mind after last week’s City Club debate.

Gard said that while he had not planned to get very involved in Burdick’s campaign, the fact that Sten was targeting his firm was making Gard get more involved.

Get your hip boots and chest waders on. The chief architect of obfuscation and misdirection on behalf of the town’s power-brokers is going to bring the muck.

Citizens Of Tuttle Must Be So Proud

A few days ago, the City Manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma, gained notoriety for threatening to call the FBI on people who had nothing to do with his problem.

Now, despite the record of his antics being publicly-accessible on the Web, he engages in revisionist history in email to The Register, as if no one could check to see if he’s being accurate or truthful. Apparently, the City of Tuttle’s telecommunications service must be turned off, otherwise someone out there would have picked up the cluephone by now.

Learning To Be Conservative (Class 101)

If you are a conservative and you want to be a better conservative, or your situation is changing in such a way that you feel becoming a conservative might be a good fit for the new you, then here are some tips to follow to obtain that conservative mindset.

First it’s very important to understand that conservative ideas closely follow those of hypocrisy. Things like supporting states rights, unless the states in question happen to believe people have the right to death with dignity or the medical use of marijuana.

Christianity

Conservatives love to use the Christian religion as a weapon against others, and as a conservative you shouldn’t worry about whether or not you yourself live up to Christian ideals, or even if you understand the religion yourself. You will be happy when people you hate — homosexuals, Muslims, liberals, city-dwellers — are injured or killed, and will loudly proclaim it to be God’s punishment for America’s sinful ways.

Motivation Techniques

A good conservative will learn powerful motivational techniques. Perhaps the strongest ones are lying and shouting. These tactics are effective with many, especially if you use them at the same time, and even more especially if you throw in phrases like “family values” and “if you’re not with us, you’re against us.” Other effective motivational lies and shouts are good to use even in group and organizational names, or in slogans, especially to convey the appearance of patriotism. Slogans such as No Spin Zone or Fair and Balanced, or groups such as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the Department of Justice, etc. There are thousands.

Education

A good conservative will demand that the only education poor or low-performing students deserve is “the basics,” because for these students knowing only how to read and do some math is Good Enough. Any attempts by liberals to push for equality in education and a well-rounded curriculum for all must be met with strong resistance. Liberal parents must be accused of stripping God from the public schools. Note: As a conservative you should appreciate that dumbing down public education in this way will pave the way for a whole new generation of people weak enough to fall prey to your lies and shouting.

Don’t F With Chloe

You didn’t know you wanted one, but you do. Now you can own a DFWC t-shirt of your very own.

Good Enough?

John Dunshee hopes that his readers didn’t actually bother to read what I wrote about No Child Left Behind.

It’s necessary for his readers not to have bothered doing so in order for him to convince them that what I wrote was the equivalent of arguing that poorer and/or lower-performing students shouldn’t be taught the basics of reading and mathematics.

Those of his readers who in fact did not bother to read my piece, as Dunshee hopes, would have missed this:

Backers of the law like to assert that critics of the law dismiss the importance of “the basics” such as reading and math, as if the highest and loftiest goal and purpose of education is no more than to have to choose between the basics and a more substantial curriculum.

The point, which I’ll spell out in short words for Dunshee and his audience, is that it is the opponents of public education who force schools into having to make the entirely false choice between “the basics” and “everything else.” Those of us who have not spent the last several decades slashing almost all available funding mechanisms for public education believe it is society’s obligation to offer both the basics and everything else to all students.

It should take no particular stretch of the imagination to notice the irony that at the very same time he claims to support “the basics” of reading, Dunshee relies on the presumption that his own readers don’t actually know how to live up to that term.

In the end, it’s simple (which should help with the reading comprehension here): Dunshee and his ilk believe that offering nothing more than “the basics” to poorer or lower-performing students is Good Enough.

Those of us out here who still believe that the United States is capable of living up to the notion of being a civilized society believe neither that it’s Good Enough, nor that Good Enough is good enough.
